The scene : At the overlook that dominates the plain, the tanker truck is parked at the end of the opening chase, when Max, in search of gasoline, encounters the raiders; Wez makes his motorcycle rear up over the ridge, and it is also here that the final shot of the film is composed, with Max standing near Papagallo's car.
Silverton, Australia
The scene : At the corner at the foot of the lookout, the finale unfolds: Humungus's car crashes head-on into the tanker truck, then the Mack leaves the road and overturns, before the marauders abandon the wreck and climb the hill.
Silverton, Australia
The scene : On this stretch of Wilangee Road, between Silverton and the lookout, the opening chase takes place: Wez overtakes the Landau that is chasing the Interceptor, then Max weaves through the wrecks at the top of the hill, where the Landau crashes into them.
Silverton, Australia
Vast desert plain to the northwest of Silverton, dominated by Mundi Mundi Lookout.
The scene : Beyond the bend, the long straight line that runs through the plain serves at the beginning of the opening chase, when the pursuers gain ground on Max after he cuts off his compressor.
Broken Hill, Australia
The scene : In the dried-up bed of Stephens Creek, the Gyro Captain has set up his autogyro; Max drives down the path towards the creek, a crane shot captures the scene, and parks the Interceptor in front of a tree.
Middle Pinnacle
Broken Hill, Australia
One of the peaks of the Thackaring Pinnacles, a small rocky massif that rises above the plain to the southwest of Broken Hill.
The scene : From the top of this peak, Max observes the besieged refinery and the marauders' camp set up at his feet.
Middle Pinnacle (eastern base)
Broken Hill, Australia
The scene : At the foot of the Middle Pinnacle, closest to the road, the production built the set of the fortified refinery: the truck arrives there, its occupants defend it, Max is saved behind rocks by the yelps of the Feral Kid, and the complex blows up at the end.
The Pinnacles (Broken Hill)
Broken Hill, Australia
A small massif of rocky hills facing a vast plain, to the southwest of Broken Hill. The site has since been returned to its Aboriginal owners and access is prohibited without permission.
The scene : In front of the refinery, the marauders have set up their camp: it is from there that Humungus launches his ultimatum to the besieged and opens fire while Max forces his way through with the truck.
Broken Hill, Australia
The path that leads up to the site of the refinery was marked for filming and still exists.
The scene : The Pinnacles Road carries the entire load of the truck: Max stops to check his rifle, leaves the main road to head up towards the Pinnacles, then descends towards the refinery; on the way, a marauder shatters the windshield.
Broken Hill, Australia
The scene : In this steep descent towards a dry creek, Max's Interceptor, pushed off the road by Wez, tumbles down the slope, flips over, and then explodes at his feet.
Broken Hill, Australia
The scene : On the side of the road, in one of these ravines, the 'cannonball' waterfall takes place: a biker speeding at full throttle crashes into a wreck and flies over it.
Broken Hill, Australia
The scene : On the twists of Menindee Road, the Warrior Woman is hit by a shot and falls from the tanker truck; the author who sets the scene here does not assert this with certainty.
Broken Hill, Australia
The scene : The final chase of the tanker truck speeds along the long straight stretches of Menindee Road, which cuts the desert in two between Broken Hill and the Menindee Lakes.
Menindee, Australia
The scene : It is by the edge of this lake that the Gyro Captain, chained, drags his piece of wood.
