  3. Medfield State Hospital

    Medfield, United States

Former asylum opened in 1896 under the name Medfield Insane Asylum, later renamed Medfield State Hospital, and designed by the Vermont architect William Pitt Wentworth. At its peak, the complex included nearly 60 buildings spread over approximately 3 square miles, housed up to 2,000 patients and 1,000 employees, produced its own heat and electricity, and operated farms and livestock. Today abandoned, its campus remains accessible during the day, but entry into the buildings is prohibited.

Site of the former Whittenton Mills textile factory, long abandoned and now gone.

  8. Bar Harbor, United States

The scene : The cliff where Teddy, cut off from the lighthouse by the tide, sees Chuck's body on the rocks below, descends the wall to join him, then finds that the body has disappeared.

Sold to the Missionaries of La Salette after Charles Rice's death in 1943, it subsequently became a golf club whose manor serves as the clubhouse.
