Inman Bend Road Cabin Ruins (Morristown)
Morristown, United States
Hunting cabin built in the late 1960s on a vast private land near Morristown, a few hundred meters from the road at the end of a path. It burned down in April 1982: only a remnant of a stone chimney remains, shortened year by year by visitors who take away stones, along with rusty roofing sheets. The land is private, and its owners refuse visits.
The scene : Main setting of the film: the isolated cabin at the end of a forest trail, where almost all the action takes place. The access path, the cabin, and its shed were arranged as seen on screen; only the basement trapdoor was added, dug into the floor.
Tazewell, United States
The scene : On this country road in Claiborne County, the characters' car narrowly avoids a collision while heading to the cabin.
Tazewell, United States
Gravel route that follows the Clinch River just next to Highway 25E, on the other side of Clinch Mountain, at the border of Grainger and Claiborne counties. A green sign indicates both "Clinch River Rd" and "Riverside Rd".
The scene : The yellow Oldsmobile speeds along a gravel road running alongside the river, narrowly avoiding a red logging truck; in the background, the bridge of Highway 25E can be seen.
Bean Station, United States
The scene : By the roadside, two fishermen wave to the car passing towards the cabin.
Bluff Road Bridge (Bridgeport)
Bridgeport, United States
Only a central pillar and the paths leading up to it from each side remain of the old bridge. The site is located at the foot of the current bridge on Route 25 in Bridgeport, below Bluff Road, a narrow one-lane road facing a white house on the opposite bank.
The scene : The bridge that appears on screen leading to the cabin. The crew filmed it intact for a few days, then distorted its northern end at the welding station and with the tow truck to give it the shape of a gnarled hand.
Knoxville, United States
The scene : IMDb and LatLong list Knoxville among the filming locations for the movie, without specifying a scene; principal photography took place in eastern Tennessee from November 1979 to January 1980.
Detroit
Detroit, United States
The scene : 1980s Rehearsal Region: Sam Raimi's garage doubled for part of the cabin's basement, his garden was used for the cutaway shots of Cheryl's attack by the trees, and the garage and basement of Bart Pierce, located about ten kilometers from the city, housed all the stop-motion animation of the final decomposition of the bodies.
Marshall (Michigan)
Marshall, United States
The scene : For two weeks of reshoots, a farm near Marshall provided the cellar and bathroom of the cabin, all the shots around the fireplace, reconstructed on site, and, at the back of the property, the burial and decapitation of Linda.
Gladwin, United States
The scene : During a week of pick-ups, Bruce Campbell's family summer cabin in Gladwin hosted the bulk of the scene where Cheryl is attacked by the trees of the forest.
Hartland Township, United States
Small lake in Hartland Township, in Livingston County. Its southwest shore, marshy in 1980 and served by a dirt road, is now developed; to the north, Joshua Street and Erika Lane are named after the children of the developer of the subdivision.
The scene : The opening shot, a subjective view of the "force" gliding across a marsh, was filmed on the southwest shore of the lake during the reshoots.
